The Second Game

director Corneliu Porumboiu shifts his focus from fiction to documentary filmmaking in this novel work that is part sports film, part probing political indictment. Together with his father, Adrian - a former professional referee during the Ceausescu era - Porumboiu layers a free-wheeling commentary over aging VHS footage of an old football match. Their conversation covers everything from politics to their own memories of the period, and the many hardships faced by the Romanian people.
